The artist’s work reflects the interdependence of all things, creating tranquil realms that invite spiritual communication
Chinese sculptor Zhao Kai was born in Shandong in 1986. Having graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2010, Zhao believes that all things are connected and is committed to reflecting the interdependence of all things through his works, often containing profound dialectical thoughts.
In this era filled with impetuousness, we are always seeking inner peace. Zhao Kai's works successfully create a tranquil and far-reaching realm, encouraging viewers to actively participate in spiritual communication. In his own words, he expresses, “What I am interested in is the inner connections between living things. We humans, being on top of the food chain, seem to be powerful and in control of the fate of other creatures … Step by step, we are encroaching on the living space of animals. In my opinion, humans are very small and fragile. We are not greater than those animals, nor are we independent of them. Humans and animals are both indispensable components in the shared ecosystem and constitute each other – the balance of life.”
This sincere and humble creative vision deeply moves our creative head, Simon Chong, who selected Zhao Kai's sculpture to grace his Qiwanli project in Qianhai that expresses ‘It’s the sound that announces the coming of spring’.
