Beyond the Algorithm: Simon Chong on the Irreplaceable Human Soul of Interior Design
In an era defined by rapid technological acceleration, our founder and principal designer Simon Chong redirects our focus to human perception - discovering the true essence of spatial design beyond the boundaries of algorithms and within the subtle textures of lived experience
As artificial intelligence permeates the design landscape, interior architecture is experiencing unprecedented evolution. From instantaneously generated spatial layouts to algorithms capable of mimicking any aesthetic trend, digital tools offer undeniable efficiency. Yet for Simon Chong, this technological shift does not diminish human value—it makes the designer’s personal intuition, sensitivity, and depth of lived experience infinitely more precious.
“An algorithm can calculate precise spatial proportions and replicate popular styles,” Simon notes, “but it cannot feel the warmth of sunlight filtering through sheer curtains onto a timber floor, nor capture the fluid mood and rhythm of living within a home.” In his view, a space is never a mere aggregation of structural lines and materials; it is an intimate, unfolding dialogue with daily life. The quiet nuances hidden within every corner stem entirely from a profound appreciation for lived moments.
Digital tools remain a medium to support vision, not dictate it. Simon believes that exceptional designers must harness modern technology while relying on rigorous on-site expertise to bring innovative concepts to life. “We appreciate the fluidity tech brings,” he shares, “but we place higher value on the designer’s passion and devotion to detail. When cutting-edge tools unite with human emotional acuity, design reveals its true depth.”
In a fast-paced world, Simon and his team continue to cultivate this essential equilibrium: welcoming technological advancements with an open mind, while fiercely safeguarding the human touch and subtle luxury that lie at the heart of meaningful design. After all, what truly resonates with the human soul is genuine emotion.
