Constructing Layers and Emotions in 80 Square Meters: Simon Chong's Modern Space Philosophy

In the increasingly cramped urban environment, how to achieve a balance between function, taste, and emotion within limited space is a challenge every designer must face. In the Shijiazhuang Zhonghai Xi'an residential project, our lead designer Simon Chong showcased the depth and dynamism of a small space through precise material selection and spatial layout

This 80-square-meter unit with three bedrooms, two living rooms, and one bathroom, though small, is fully functional. Simon shares, "Design is not just about solving space problems, but also about guiding people to rediscover the quality and rhythm of life. True beauty is often hidden in the details of everyday life."

The design team used mirrors to extend the visual interface, cleverly blurring the boundary between the dining room and living room, making the space more fluid. The main color scheme of dark gray and burgundy breaks away from the light-colored designs commonly found in small spaces, creating a modern yet sophisticated atmosphere. The wallpaper uses a combination of gold and gray, making the black elements stand out in the space and visually echoing the artwork in the entryway.

The master bedroom features a wooden and gray glass wardrobe paired with dark brown and lemon brown, improving storage efficiency while continuing the overall color scheme. The artistic upholstery behind the sofa displays natural textures, complementing the orange-brown throw pillows, while the textured details of the rug and throw infuse the space with warmth and a sense of life.

This project doesn't strive for extravagance, but rather uses subtle layers and material language to allow residents to feel the depth and warmth of home in every corner.
