In the bustling city, Simon Chong always embraces his love for nature. He sees nature as the soul of his design. Through the delicate and gentle moss, he creates sculptures that allow the space to quietly exude vitality, awakening the resonance of the senses and emotions
Contemporary interior design increasingly emphasizes the integration of natural elements, not only adding visual beauty to a space but also evoking inner emotions and sensory experiences. Moss, a discreet yet vibrant material, is given a new interpretation in Simon Chong's designs, becoming a tranquil and profound artistic expression.
The soft texture and organic form of moss effectively soften the harshness of hard building materials, infusing a space with rhythm and layering. Whether used as a wall installation, a sculptural form, or as a decorative accent, it creates a visual balance between movement and stillness, while also tactilely inviting interaction between the user and the space. Simon says, "Moss makes me rethink the rhythm of space. It's a slow art form, yet also a profound experience. I enjoy using moss to break down the hardness of a space, allowing the softness of nature to permeate every corner."
In the Shenzhen International Qianhai Yicheng Qiwanli project, he used metal screens and a luxurious stone reception desk to create a modern yet restrained atmosphere. He then incorporated moss and installation art to cleverly balance the tension between the various materials, creating a layered and emotionally rich lobby. The moss ornaments on the long dining table inject a touch of vitality into the otherwise cool interior.
The interior garden of the Nanjing Yuanshang Danruo project also uses moss as a discreet yet essential backdrop, allowing the trees to blend naturally into the space and extending the view through the floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a striking green focal point. Moss and water complement the indoor swimming pool, creating an organic and natural scene within the artificial environment. Moss also features delicately inlaid in the sofa area of the meeting space and along the sculptural staircase.
This design approach not only demonstrates Simon's deep love for nature but also reflects his keen understanding of spatial structure and emotional flow. Moss becomes a living artistic language in his work, allowing space to be perceived not only visually but also through a nuanced experience.
